Group Buying is Huge!

Group Buying is such a huge opportunity and its only going get bigger, a lot bigger!
The slide is something I am working on, and shows the market opportunity around the world will reach $10 billion by 2015.

What a great opportunity for everyone involved in this industry, daily deals sites, aggregators, mobile apps and those bright ideas yet to come.

Over the 2.5 years, I've been operating group buying sites in Greece, Hungary and Romania. Looking at the numbers from Greece during 05/2010 - 12/2011:

• €45m total market revenue (this includes merchant revenue)
• 27,000 deals 
• 1,8m coupons sold
• 146 daily deal sites (113 active in 12/2011)

Even though the current state of the group buying model has flaws and can be improved for all the stakeholders, I still see see a lot of value creation, specifically how SMBs with little or no internet experience have found ways of reaching consumers and getting them in the door.
