Rethinking Display Ads

Its time to seriously rethink online display advertising. Currently online display advertising is the placement of animated, trackable and sometimes interactive billboards.

Here is a couple of directions we will see more of in the future:
- Advertising opportunities build right into the site itself
- Place display ads differently, where people are inclined to click

A great example for this is mydeco.com an ecommerce advertising opportunity built directly into the site itself. It allows for users to configure any room of their own on the site and decorate and furnish it with a select array of flooring, furniture, wallpaper and accessories. Once items are selected, the user can complete the purchase through deep links to the supplier site. This is advertising and ecommerce in context at its most extreme.



Also rethinking placements also has alot value, especially if we put our display ads was in enviroments were users are naturally inclined to click, like search results. While CTRs for display advertising are dying, we will definitely see a huge difference, because in SERPs users are looking to click on something.
